Hey Guys,

This is my first post. I usually write on the forum through MGMT's website. I have since decided that I just want to be everywhere that MGMT is the topic of discussion. I was at All Points West last night and although this was not the best i've seen them, they still put on a great performance. Everywhere you walked there was a foot of mud, thank god I wore boots, but that all restricted my dancing. Instead of coming out to their normal awesome song, they came out to the pink panther theme song. They opened with the youth. Dan Treacy, It's Working, and Congrats were all played and all sounded great. They covered the song "Anything Could Happen" by the band The Clean. Only one encore song, it was kids. James was ripping a dope solo through out the song and I feel he really stepped it up during this performance. My friends and I brought in a bunch of glowsticks and were throwing them every which way, and for electric feel we broke em open and poured the contents all over our shirts to enhance the neon funk jungle pit music we were being subjected to. Anyone want to adding anything? I dont have the exact set list but songs they played were:

the youth
song for dan treacy
anything could happen
of moons
handshake
my electric eel is a happy meal
time to pretend
kids
it's working
congrats
weekend wars

They have said it a bunch of times, if you search vids of them on youtube long enough you'll find it. Yeah it was a short set list, they played for just over an hour. I have been reading reviews of the show and a lot of people have been saying the band didn't seem to be having fun at all and I would have to agree with them. I mean I've seen them 4 times now and they never really move or freak out on stage (except james, thats why I love him) so its possible people were expecting more of a spectacle, but it was just a regular old show. There's also reports that Andrew rushed his way over to catch the end of Coldplay. Shame on you Andrew! You are the future! Either way I still had a blast, but seeing as there was so much mud and it was such a rough go of a concert I was hoping they would at least have had more energy and played a bigger show.

Linde! :H: As for myself, I didn't say they're, hmmm... poep. ;) I watched one of their live shows lately - thought I might get to like their music - but I just... I just can't take them seriously. And you know the cliché phrase: Tastes differ.

DORA! :H:

Poep :rotfl: Haha.
I dunno, I don't think they're bad, and I like some of their songs, but they're just kinda..boring or something. But I do like them.
Why can't you take them seriously? O_o

I enjoy MGMT music a whole lot. However, their SHORT setlist kinda makes me gloomy. I do understand that they put out their first album about a year or two ago. Hence, they still need to mature, grow, and flourish as a band/unit. But a short setlist this time around still makes me a little itchy. They have a bunch of songs they can perfrom live. For example, Indie Rokkers, Love Always Remains, Metanoia, Boogie down, ect. Plus, some of their new stuff. Than again, I don't have a band, I don't know how things works behind the scenes and what not. Maybe there is a reason why they play short setlist. Who knows? Overall, that's just my 2 cents.

Oh, the glow stick idea = GROOVY!!!

The rain Sunday was wicked here on the east cost of the U.S. At one point I thought I would be in Emerald City with Dorthy and the gang. That's awsome that All Points West was not cancled.

I hear you mr. octopus, loud and clear my phriend. I feel that love always remains would be suuuch a great song live because it could be played by the whole band ya know? Their earlier stuff is really electronic so they prob haven't really figured out way to incorporate the whole band into the live song. look at kids, its straight weird electro dancey pop right? If the band played it with their instruments it wouldn't sound as good as it does the way they play it now. Ben and Andrew just sing and dance and have fun with it while James shreds on his guitar.

Thanks for the glow stick comment, I ruined my favorite shirt but i consider that a sacrifice to the spectacular experience that is MGMT's live performance. I would do it again in a heart beat.
